Musicians Grow at Orin Smith Elementary

The music program at Orin Smith Elementary continues growing our students’ musical knowledge from the base they receive in K-2 at James Lintott Elementary. Students in 3rd and 4th grade learn concepts such as the identifying basic rhythms both aurally and visually, reading note names on the treble clef staff, developing critical listening skills both for their own performance and group performances, and getting to make music on their own. In 5th grade, our students get the chance to participate in organized music groups, further deepening their understanding of musical concepts and preparing them for music at the middle school level.

What to Expect

5th Grade Music for 2026-2027

In 5th grade, every student participates in either choir, band or orchestra. Ted Brown Music offers rentals to our students who choose music classes that require an instrument, with pick ups, drop offs and repairs from the convenience of the school, though, students may choose to rent or purchase an instrument elsewhere. Our 4th graders recently got a chance to learn more about the instruments available for rent through Ted Brown. Keep an eye out for the flyer below and talk to your student about what their music choice for next year might be.
