Master Schedule at Orin C. Smith

Dear Families,

As we continue to build strong partnerships to support your child’s learning and success, I would like to share some information about how we intentionally structure our school day to support instruction and student growth.

Our master schedule includes dedicated time for students to practice skills they are currently learning and to strengthen skills they need to successfully access grade-level content. This time is called WIN (What I Need) time.

Each day, students have 30 minutes of WIN time for mathematics and 30 minutes for English language arts (ELA). During these blocks, students receive instruction tailored to their individual needs. This may include targeted interventions, additional practice with grade-level content, or enrichment opportunities for students who are ready for an additional challenge.

During your child’s conference, you can expect to learn more about how your child spends WIN time, the skills they are developing, and the ways our teachers are working diligently to provide meaningful, targeted instruction that supports each student’s growth.

We are committed to creating systems and learning opportunities that meet the diverse needs of every child and help all students grow and succeed. Through this intentional block of time, we are preparing students for their individual journey ahead.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to working together to ensure every child receives the instruction and opportunities they need to thrive.

Warmly,
Mrs. Clark
Principal, Orin C. Smith

New Shaw Campus Sculpture

Have you been to OSE or JLE recently?
We have a beautiful new sculpture as you enter Shaw Campus main parking lot. We want to share a bit about it with our families and community.

Throughout Chehalis, you may have noticed similar sculptures. Mr. and Mrs. Austin have generously donated many sculptures in our community. For the sculpture on Shaw Campus, there were many community members who donated:
Ben and Kristy LaCrosse
Steve and Carol Kostanich
Mike and Sue Austin

You might ask, why Chehalis School District and why at this particular campus?
To summarize, during our dedication ceremony, Mrs. Sue Austin shared that our students are the future and literature is one of many ways their world is opened.

We want to take a moment to thank the Austin, Kostanich & LaCrosse families for their donation and commitment to the Chehalis community. We also owe gratitude to our Maintenance and Grounds department for helping us position it and ensure it is beautifully placed.

26/27 STUDENT COUNCIL

Orin Smith Student Council

Classes recently chose one student representative and one classroom alternate for our student council leadership group led by Mrs. Ishler. They meet once a month. The purpose of the Orin C. Smith Elementary School Student Council is to provide a foundation for future citizenship of our students through promoting the general welfare of the school by developing and fostering school spirit, involving students in the formation of wholesome activities, and by being a part of the community through appropriate service projects. Their first project was to come up with spirit dress up days, one day for each month. Be on the lookout. They chose some good ones!
